Apple’s AirTag has once again proven to be a valuable tool in tracking down a stolen vehicle. This time, in the city of Cary, North Carolina, the AirTag led to the arrest of three juvenile thieves, but not before the stolen car crashed during a high-speed chase.
According to WRAL News, the theft of the Muhammads’ Toyota Camry was captured on a neighbor’s doorbell camera, but the family had no idea until they woke up and saw the car was missing from their driveway.
However, the Muhammads have now made a habit of putting AirTags in everything they own, including the car. The AirTag allowed the police to pinpoint the location of the stolen car, which was 12 miles away in Durham city.
As Durham PD officers approached the car, the thieves drove away at high speed, almost hitting a police cruiser and eventually crashing the car on Martin Luther King Jr Parkway. The three thieves were arrested at the scene and guns found in the car were taken by police.
Despite the destruction of the car, Leslie Muhammad is grateful for the AirTag and the quick actions of the police. “They picked the wrong car that night,” she said.
The AirTag has once again shown its effectiveness in tracking down stolen vehicles, leading to the arrest of the thieves. The technology continues to revolutionize the way police track down stolen property, making it easier and faster to recover stolen goods and bring the perpetrators to justice.
