Apple’s highly anticipated annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) is approaching, and as usual, rumors are circulating about the upcoming iOS update. According to an anonymous source with a track record of accurate leaks, iOS 17 is set to introduce a variety of new features and improvements, including enhancements to Search, the Dynamic Island, Control Center, and more.
One of the most significant changes reportedly coming to iOS 17 is an improvement to the search functionality. The source claims that the search tool will be “heavily improved,” but did not provide any further details. This is interesting news for iPhone users who rely on the built-in search tool to surface information on their devices and on the web.
Another rumored improvement is the expansion of the Dynamic Island feature to all four iPhone 15 models. Dynamic Island, which was introduced on the iPhone 14 Pro last year, currently displays system alerts and Live Activities, such as Uber rides and NBA scores. The source claims that Dynamic Island will be able to “do a lot more” on iOS 17, though specifics were not provided.
In addition to these improvements, iOS 17 is also expected to feature major changes to the Control Center’s design and customizability. The Control Center has remained largely the same since iOS 11, and an update to the user interface would be a welcome change for iPhone users.
The anonymous source also revealed that iOS 17 will include new custom accessibility settings that give users more control over the iPhone’s user interface. This could potentially relate to the “Custom Accessibility Mode” that was discovered in the iOS 16.2 beta last year, which would allow users to replace the Lock Screen and Home Screen with more accessible UI elements, remove the Dock, and set larger app icons.
Other rumored changes include additional settings for notifications and the always-on display, more Focus filters, car key improvements in the Wallet app, updates to the Camera and Health apps, and new ARKit frameworks in preparation for Apple’s long-rumored AR/VR headset launch later this year. The source also mentioned the possibility of interactive Home Screen widgets.
Despite all of these potential new features, the source believes that iOS 17 will focus primarily on performance and stability improvements. They also noted that the update will remain compatible with older devices, such as the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X.

Of course, as with all rumors, it’s important to take these leaks with a grain of salt until Apple officially confirms them. However, given the anonymous source’s track record of accurate leaks, it’s possible that some of these changes will make their way into the upcoming iOS 17 update.
Apple is expected to announce iOS 17 during the WWDC 2023 keynote on June 5, and developers will likely be able to test the first beta version of the update later that day. The first public beta will probably be released in July. Stay tuned for more information about iOS 17 as we get closer to the WWDC event.
