Apple fans, get ready for some exciting news! According to a new report from Mark Gurman, the tech giant has some big plans in the works for its laptops and tablets. In his recent Power On newsletter, Mark shared some details about what we can expect from Apple’s upcoming 13- and 15-inch MacBook Air laptops, as well as the highly anticipated M3 OLED iPad Pro.
First up, let’s talk about the MacBook Air updates. While details are still somewhat unclear, Mark suggests that Apple may use the M2 chip in the new 15-inch MacBook Air, but is more likely to opt for the M3 chip in the refreshed 13-inch model.
Why? Well, as Mark puts it, “a 15-inch MacBook Air with an M2 chip may still excite consumers, but a new M2 13-inch MacBook Air is unlikely to be compelling”. In other words, if Apple wants to generate buzz and drive sales, it’s going to need to go all-out with the 13-inch model and include the more powerful M3 chip.
However, not everyone agrees with Mark’s assessment. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted that the upcoming 15-inch MacBook Air will feature the M2 or M2 Pro chip, while Ross Young believes it could arrive as soon as April.
As for the launch date of the new MacBook Air models, Mark doesn’t give a specific timeline, other than to say they’ll arrive sometime between “late spring and summer”. But whenever they do arrive, we can expect a major boost in power efficiency and performance, thanks to the M3 chip’s 3nm design.
M3 OLED iPad Pro and Touchscreen MacBook of course, the MacBook Air updates aren’t the only exciting news from Apple. Mark also reports that we can expect to see the M3 chip make its way to a new OLED iPad Pro in the first half of 2024.

And looking even further ahead, Mark says we can anticipate “even more exciting Mac upgrades” as early as 2025. Specifically, he suggests that this could be when Apple introduces its first MacBook with a touchscreen and OLED display.
While there’s still plenty of speculation and uncertainty surrounding these upcoming releases, one thing is for sure: Apple fans have a lot to look forward to in the coming years. So get ready to upgrade your tech and experience the latest and greatest from this innovative tech giant.
