In a move that comes as no surprise, Apple has ceased signing iOS 16.4.1 following the release of iOS 16.5 on May 18. By discontinuing the signing process, Apple effectively prevents iPhone users from downgrading to the previous software version.
Apple has a long-standing practice of halting the signing of older iOS versions once new releases hit the market. This strategy aims to encourage customers to maintain up-to-date operating systems, thereby ensuring optimal user experience and device security. Consequently, the cessation of iOS 16.4.1 signing aligns with Apple’s standard operating procedures.
Introduced on April 7, iOS 16.4.1 represented a minor bug fix update that arrived merely two weeks after the launch of iOS 16.4. The latter release introduced several notable features, including new emojis, Safari Web Push notifications, Voice Isolation for phone calls, and more.
With the advent of iOS 16.5, iPhone users received vital bug fixes and a couple of noteworthy additions to their devices. Among the improvements were a dedicated Sports tab within Apple News, catering to sports enthusiasts who seek real-time updates, and a visually appealing Pride Collection wallpaper exclusively designed for Lock Screens.
