In an exciting announcement today, Apple revealed that it has enhanced the search functionality of its Podcasts app across various devices, including the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. By introducing nine additional subcategories to the Search tab, Apple aims to make it even easier for users to discover new shows spanning different genres and topics.
The newly added subcategories are as follows:
- Mental Health
- Relationships
- Self-Improvement
- Personal Journals
- Entrepreneurship
- Documentary
- Parenting
- Books
- Language Learning
What’s even better is that users can dive into these subcategories right away, without the need for a software update. Apple has designed each subcategory with its own charts, offering a comprehensive view of the Top Shows and Top Episodes available in the listener’s market. For example, if you’re in the U.S., you can easily browse through the Mental Health charts, which showcase the top 200 shows and episodes based on a combination of listening, follows, and completion rate.
But Apple’s efforts don’t stop there. The tech giant has also introduced a new “Podcasts by Language” section in the app, currently available in the U.S., U.K., Canada, and Australia. This addition allows users to effortlessly find podcasts in their native language, catering to a diverse range of listeners. To kickstart this feature, Apple offers support for over 20 languages, including English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.
With these improvements, Apple continues to strengthen its position in the podcasting realm. By expanding search functionality and introducing curated charts in specific subcategories, the company is empowering users to explore a vast array of content, while also ensuring they can find podcasts that resonate with their interests and preferences.
