Apple has reportedly excluded BOE, its new OLED screen supplier, from supplying screens for the rumored OLED iPad. BOE has had a rocky relationship with Apple in the past over manufacturing issues and quality control, despite being known for making iPhone display panels.
However, a report from Business Korea suggests that BOE had been trying to expand into iPad Pro screen production. Apple has now placed orders for 10.9-inch and 12.9-inch OLED panels to be used in new iPad Pro models due to come out in 2024, but BOE has been excluded from the order.
In addition, Apple is said to be planning to bring OLED displays to the MacBook Pro starting in 2026. This contradicts a recent claim by Ming-Chi Kuo that the first models would be out by the end of 2024.
Samsung was previously reported to have agreed to develop OLED in the two-stack form that Apple wants. Additionally, LG Display has reportedly prepared OLED production lines specifically for the iPad.
The move to OLED displays is expected to bring significant improvements in color accuracy, brightness, and contrast to Apple devices. However, the exclusion of BOE from the order highlights the importance of maintaining high-quality standards and relationships with suppliers in the tech industry.
