Apple Pay, the revolutionary mobile payments platform from tech giant Apple, is set to make its debut in multiple countries simultaneously, according to recent reports. Chile and Vietnam are the next potential destinations for this much-anticipated expansion, with speculations suggesting an early August launch in these two markets.
Apple has been steadily increasing the availability of Apple Pay, and after its recent launch in Morocco in July, it appears that Chile and Vietnam are next in line to embrace the popular payment service.
The excitement surrounding the arrival of Apple Pay in Chile was fueled by an apparent social media post by Transbank, the interbank service networking bank in the country, welcoming the payment platform to its network. However, the post was quickly taken down, suggesting it might have been published prematurely.
Such instances are not uncommon, as banks and financial institutions have occasionally confirmed Apple Pay’s imminent arrival before retracting their statements. For instance, in August 2022, Malaysia’s AmBank accidentally posted information about Apple Pay on its website before hastily removing it as it had not been officially announced.
Nonetheless, despite the social media post’s removal, sources from four financial institutions in Chile have revealed that Apple Pay is expected to launch around August 8, according to journalist Pedro Segura Martin.
But it’s not just Chile that is anticipating the arrival of Apple Pay on August 8. Vietnam is also rumored to join the list of countries embracing the mobile payment service on the same date.
Twitter user “ShrimpApplePro,” renowned for accurate leaks, has disclosed a list of companies in Vietnam that will supposedly support Apple Pay, and it includes big names like Starbucks, McDonald’s, and Booking.com. Moreover, the same source confidently maintains that the August 8 launch date is legitimate.
Reports from July have further corroborated these rumors, with Vietnam Investment Review confirming that multiple banks in Vietnam are actively working on integrating Apple Pay into their services.
