In a move that reflects its relentless global expansion, Apple has now launched its renowned payment service, Apple Pay, in Vietnam. This comes on the heels of a report last month that inadvertently unveiled the platform’s impending arrival through an accidental news leak by Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade. Today, the wait is over, as Apple Pay becomes accessible to users across the country.
As first highlighted by astute Twitter user Aaron, Apple has seamlessly integrated Apple Pay into its backend systems for Vietnam. The local TPBank has taken swift action, unveiling a dedicated webpage to confirm that its valued customers can seamlessly link their cards to the innovative Wallet app.
The debut of Apple Pay in Vietnam marks a significant stride forward, introducing a novel and convenient payment alternative for the country’s thriving community of Apple aficionados. Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, which had inadvertently preannounced the launch last month, stated, “With the introduction of Apple Pay in Vietnam, it is expected to further boost the adoption of cashless payment methods in the country.”
Notably, this exciting development arrives merely three months after Apple made waves by inaugurating its online store within Vietnam’s borders. The Vice President of Retail at Apple, Deirdre O’Brien, emphatically declared at that juncture that this was just the beginning, with a host of new services primed for the country’s eager audience.
For the uninitiated, Apple Pay facilitates swift and secure payments for iPhone and Apple Watch users in brick-and-mortar stores by simply holding their devices in close proximity to the credit and debit card readers. This seamless functionality extends online, serving apps and websites, where it is also available for iPad and Mac users. Impressively, Apple Pay’s availability spans more than 80 countries globally.
