In the wake of the 7.8-magnitude earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria on Monday, Apple CEO Tim Cook has shared his condolences and thoughts to the affected communities. In addition to sending his support, Cook also announced that Apple will be donating to relief and recovery efforts in both countries.
Taking to social media, Cook expressed his sympathy and concern for those impacted by the earthquakes, which have so far claimed over 19,000 lives. “Sending thoughts and condolences to the people of Turkey, Syria, and anyone affected by the earthquakes,” Cook wrote on Twitter.
In a further show of support, Apple updated its Turkish homepage to feature a black screen with a memorial ribbon. The company has removed its usual content from the site, as a mark of respect for the lives lost and a tribute to those who are still recovering.
