Apple has just rolled out tvOS 17.2, the latest update to the tvOS 17 operating system launched in September 2023. This significant update, arriving over a month after tvOS 17.1, builds on the recent Enhanced Dialogue feature expansion.
To get your hands on tvOS 17.2, head to the Settings app on your Apple TV. Navigate to System -> Software Update to initiate the download. If you’ve enabled automatic software updates, your Apple TV will seamlessly upgrade to tvOS 17.2.
One of the standout features of tvOS 17.2 is the revamped Apple TV app, the central content hub of the device. This app boasts a sidebar showcasing content from both Apple services and streaming platforms that sync with the Watch Now tvOS feature.
In this update, Apple introduces dedicated sections for Search, Watch Now, Apple TV+, Sports, the purchasing store, and the library that houses bought TV shows and movies. Additionally, specific sections cater to popular streaming services such as ABC, CBS, Comedy Central, Hulu, ESPN, Discovery, Peacock, Prime Video, and more.
Clicking on each streaming service provides users with comprehensive details about available content. The “My TV” section has been refreshed, replacing the previous “My Channels” section, offering an improved user experience.
Notably, Apple has streamlined the content purchasing process by discontinuing the option to buy TV shows and movies directly from the standalone iTunes TV Shows and iTunes Movies apps. Instead, customers are now directed to the Apple TV app for all their content purchases. These changes aim to simplify the content purchasing and viewing experience for users.
