According to a recent report from Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple is already working on new iterations of the MacBook Air, expected to feature the M3 chip. Gurman shared this information in his Power On newsletter, stating that the updated laptops are likely to hit the market in 2024.
The existing MacBook Air lineup comprises a 13-inch model that was unveiled in June 2022 and a 15-inch variant that was introduced just last week. These laptops are currently powered by the M2 chip, which was fabricated using TSMC’s 5nm process. In contrast, the upcoming M3 chip is anticipated to utilize TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm process, leading to substantial improvements in performance and power efficiency. Gurman mentioned that the M3 chip is expected to feature a similar number of CPU and GPU cores as its predecessor, the M2 chip.
The 15-inch MacBook Air, starting at a price of $1,299, distinguishes itself from the 13-inch model primarily through its larger display and six speakers instead of four. Apple claims that both laptops offer the same battery life and share an overall design.
