In a recent edition of his highly regarded Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s renowned tech analyst, Mark Gurman, reveals that Apple is delving into the realm of larger iMacs. Gurman’s sources suggest that these exciting new models, featuring displays of approximately 32 inches, are currently in the early stages of development. While eager fans might be itching to get their hands on these impressive machines, Gurman predicts that they won’t make their debut until late 2024 or possibly even in 2025.
This development aligns with Gurman’s previous claim that Apple had plans to unveil a larger iMac boasting a display over 30 inches. However, he now sheds more light on the matter, specifying that the display size will be approximately 32 inches—akin to Apple’s esteemed Pro Display XDR monitor. The Pro Display XDR, which hit the market in December 2019, offers a stunning 6K resolution for unparalleled Retina-quality content and comes with a price tag starting at $4,999.
It’s worth noting that Apple has phased out the Intel-based 27-inch iMac and iMac Pro over the past few years. Yet, the tech giant has to introduce a larger-screen iMac that features an Apple silicon chip as a replacement. While Apple aficionados can still enjoy the 27-inch Studio Display, which can be connected to the Mac Studio or any other Mac equipped with Apple silicon, it falls short of being an all-in-one solution like the iMac.
As of now, the 24-inch iMac remains the sole all-in-one computer available from Apple. Launched in April 2021, the current model, powered by the M1 chip, has garnered significant praise. However, Gurman predicts an imminent update to the lineup, featuring a faster M3 chip, slated to hit the market in early 2024. This upgrade promises to deliver enhanced performance and power efficiency, thanks to its anticipated migration from TSMC’s 5nm process to an advanced 3nm process.
