Just three months after Apple’s abrupt closure of a retail store in North Carolina, the tech giant is making a swift comeback with plans to construct a new location just a few miles away. Permits have been filed for the construction of the forthcoming Apple store at 8805 Townley Road in Birkdale Village. This move is part of a larger endeavor aimed at rejuvenating the area, with the inclusion of other notable retail venues like Anthropologie, Lilly Pulitzer, Cheesecake Factory, and more.
Birkdale Village, an expansive 250,000-square-foot outdoor retail center, will soon see the addition of this eagerly anticipated Apple store. The region already boasts an impressive collection of 60 stores, including popular names like Warby Parker, Barnes & Noble, Kendra Scott, Lovesac, Sephora, Total Wine & More, and Dick’s Sporting Goods. Furthermore, the location offers a total of 320 apartments and over 50,000 square feet of office space, contributing to its dynamic and multifaceted appeal.
While the permits do not provide a complete picture of the store’s square footage, industry observers anticipate that Apple’s latest venture will embody the company’s refreshed design principles. These principles have most recently been showcased in the revitalized Tysons Apple Store and the Battersea opening in the United Kingdom, demonstrating Apple’s commitment to creating immersive and aesthetically pleasing retail spaces.
The decision to open a new store in Birkdale Village follows the sudden and permanent closure of Apple’s Northlake Mall location in North Carolina earlier this year. The Charlotte Business Journal was the first to spot this significant development, which unfolded against the backdrop of a concerning situation. The Northlake Mall had experienced a series of shootings within the past few months, ultimately leading Apple to close its doors in response to safety concerns.
