Apple has made a decision regarding the fate of its drama series “High Desert” on Apple TV+. Unfortunately for fans of the show, the tech giant has chosen not to renew the series for a second season. The news came from the show’s producers who announced the cancellation, dashing hopes of further episodes.
However, amidst the disappointment, there is a glimmer of hope for fans. Ben Stiller, the executive producer of “High Desert,” took to Twitter to provide some solace. In his tweet, he revealed that, unlike other streaming platforms, Apple will not be removing underperforming shows from its platform. This means that the first season of “High Desert” will continue to be available for streaming indefinitely on the Apple TV app.
Apple TV+ has been steadily growing since its launch, and with that growth comes a natural increase in the number of show cancellations. This is in line with the expansion of the overall content slate, which includes a range of original TV shows and movies.
Unsurprisingly, Apple is more inclined to renew shows that generate high viewership or attract awards attention. It is a strategy that makes sense for a company striving to deliver compelling content to its subscribers. Unfortunately, “High Desert” did not manage to reach the desired benchmarks in terms of audience numbers or awards recognition.
While the cancellation of “High Desert” may be disappointing for its dedicated viewers, it is heartening to know that Apple is not planning to remove shows from its platform entirely. This sets Apple TV+ apart from other streaming services like HBO Max and Disney+, which have resorted to pulling shows in a bid to save costs.

Interestingly, both Ben Stiller and Patricia Arquette, who starred in “High Desert,” have an ongoing relationship with Apple TV+. They are currently involved in the hit sci-fi drama series “Severance,” which is in the midst of shooting its second season. This collaboration between Apple and these esteemed actors demonstrates the platform’s commitment to delivering quality content and fostering relationships with talented industry figures.
