Apple TV+ is set to produce a limited series drama that delves into the true story of a mysterious investigator who has the ability to predict and prevent mass shootings. Dubbed “The Savant”, the series is named after the only description given to the investigator, whose story was first detailed in a 2019 Cosmopolitan article by Andrea Stanley.
The upcoming series will see Hollywood actress Jessica Chastain take on the lead role of the investigator who infiltrated online hate groups and was able to spot the signs of potential large-scale violent attacks. The Savant’s remarkable story has been the subject of fascination and intrigue since Stanley’s article was published, and now it will be brought to life on the small screen.
It’s not yet known whether Stanley is involved in writing the series, but sources say that Melissa James Gibson, known for her work on the critically acclaimed series “The Americans”, will be the showrunner. Meanwhile, Matthew Heineman, who has directed documentaries such as “Cartel Land” and “City of Ghosts”, will direct the show’s eight episodes.
While there is no confirmed production company yet, it’s worth noting that Gibson signed a two-year deal with Endeavour Content in November 2021. This production company is behind some of Apple TV+’s most popular shows, including “Severance”, “See”, and “Truth Be Told”.
The announcement of “The Savant” comes at a time when there is a heightened awareness of gun violence and mass shootings in the United States. With its focus on an investigator who is able to prevent such tragedies from happening, the series is sure to attract attention and spark important conversations about the issue.
