In a surprising move, Apple TV+ has decided not to renew the gripping thriller series “Suspicion” for a second season, as reported by industry sources. The decision comes after the show’s one-season run, which concluded 17 months ago in March 2022.
While the cancellation might not come as a shock given the time that has elapsed since the first season aired, it’s worth noting that “Suspicion” was initially announced back in 2020. The show’s production faced some challenges, with halts and restarts in the following year, leading to its eventual release.
Apple TV+ had high hopes for “Suspicion,” given that it was a direct adaptation of the critically acclaimed Israeli series “False Flag.” The original show spanned three successful seasons, captivating audiences in 2015, 2018, and 2019. However, the Apple TV+ version failed to replicate the same level of success, prompting the network’s decision not to move forward with additional seasons.
Although Apple has yet to officially confirm the cancellation, industry publication Deadline broke the news and revealed that the rights to “Suspicion” have been recently re-sold by the original production company. As a result, the first season is set to find a new home on at least one linear broadcaster’s channel.
For Apple TV+, “Suspicion” was initially considered one of its highest-profile series to emerge from the company’s UK offices, alongside “Bad Sisters” and “Slow Horses.” Both these shows have received greater critical acclaim compared to “Suspicion,” making them standout favorites among viewers.
While most Apple TV+ productions are currently on hold due to the ongoing US actors and Writers’ Guild of America strikes, “Bad Sisters” and “Slow Horses” have been able to continue production. “Slow Horses” cleverly reorganized its shooting schedule to accommodate scenes with Screen Actors Guild member Gary Oldman before the strike took effect. On the other hand, “Bad Sisters” is currently being filmed under the guidelines of the UK actors union Equity and boasts a script penned by an Irish writer.
