Apple TV+ is set to take its immersive viewing experience to the next level with its upcoming show, “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.” According to sources familiar with the production, the live-action TV series based on Legendary’s Monsterverse franchise is being shot in a 3D format optimized for Apple’s Vision Pro headset.
Sigmund Judge of ScreenTimes recently reported on this exciting development, revealing that “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” will be the first confirmed TV+ show to leverage the 3D video-viewing capabilities of Apple’s highly anticipated $3,499 headset. The VisionOS software, which powers the Vision Pro, offers a remarkable Cinematic Environment that enables users to fully immerse themselves in the shows and movies they watch, complete with the frame rate and aspect ratio chosen by the creators. Moreover, the feature supports spatial audio, adding a new dimension to the viewing experience, and the virtual screen environment can make viewers feel like they’re surrounded by a screen that spans a colossal 100 feet in width.
During Apple’s recent Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) keynote, the tech giant showcased this cutting-edge technology to the public and later treated invited members of the press to an exclusive demonstration. Clips from James Cameron’s highly anticipated film, “Avatar: The Way of Water,” were used to showcase the Vision Pro headset’s ability to render even more immersive content through its stereoscopic 3D capabilities. This promising feature hints at a future where Apple TV+ can deliver a truly captivating and lifelike viewing experience.
While Apple announced its order for the Godzilla TV series back in January 2022, specific details regarding its release on TV+ have yet to be revealed. The series takes place in the aftermath of the epic battle between Godzilla and the Titans, which famously laid waste in the city of San Francisco. Produced by Legendary Television and helmed by co-creator Chris Black, known for his work on “Star Trek: Enterprise” and “Outcast,” the series promises to transport audiences into a thrilling post-apocalyptic world teeming with larger-than-life creatures.
