Apple has finally unveiled the trailer for “Killers of the Flower Moon,” an exciting Western drama directed by Martin Scorsese and featuring A-list stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Mollie Kyle. The highly anticipated film will make its debut at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival on May 20th.
In an unprecedented move, Apple has secured exclusive worldwide theatrical distribution for “Killers of the Flower Moon” in partnership with Paramount Pictures. The film will initially have a limited release on October 6th, followed by a wider release on October 20th. Afterward, it will be available for global streaming on Apple TV+.
The movie is based on a true story that took place during the 1920s in the Osage Nation, Oklahoma. The period, known as the Reign of Terror, was marked by a series of murders. Apple’s announcement revealed that the film draws inspiration from the bestselling book by David Grann and is a collaboration between Scorsese and renowned screenwriter Eric Roth.
During this era, the Osage Nation experienced an extraordinary fortune thanks to the discovery of oil, instantly transforming its members into millionaires. However, this newfound wealth attracted the attention of unscrupulous individuals looking to exploit it. These opportunistic outsiders resorted to deception, extortion, and embezzlement, ultimately resorting to murder.
The gripping narrative follows a romantic relationship between the characters Ernest Burkhart (played by DiCaprio) and Mollie Kyle (portrayed by Lily Gladstone). In addition to DiCaprio and Kyle, “Killers of the Flower Moon” boasts an ensemble cast of celebrated actors, including Robert De Niro, Jesse Plemons, Brendan Fraser, and John Lithgow.
