The highly anticipated benchmark results for Apple’s latest M2 Ultra chip have made their debut on Geekbench 6, shedding light on the CPU performance improvements that lie within. This cutting-edge chip is set to power the forthcoming Mac Studio and Mac Pro models, slated for release tomorrow.
Although there is some variability in the results, it seems that the Mac Studio equipped with the M2 Ultra chip boasts an impressive single-core score of approximately 2,800 and a multi-core score of around 21,700. As predicted, these scores effectively validate Apple’s claims of the M2 Ultra chip delivers up to a 20% increase in CPU performance compared to its predecessor, the M1 Ultra chip. Consequently, the M2 Ultra now reigns as Apple’s fastest chip ever released.
What’s even more intriguing about these benchmark scores is that the new Mac Pro is expected to offer a staggering 2× faster overall CPU performance than the fastest Intel-based Mac Pro, equipped with a 28-core Xeon W processor. This achievement becomes all the more remarkable when considering that the starting price of the new Mac Pro is $6,999, nearly half the cost of its Intel-based counterpart, which began at a hefty $12,999. During Apple’s recent WWDC keynote, the tech giant asserted that the new Mac Pro boasts a 3× performance boost over the Intel-based model but limited that claim to select “real-world pro workflows like video transcoding and 3D simulation.”
While the new Mac Studio and Mac Pro share many impressive features, the primary reason for considering the Mac Pro over its sibling, the Mac Studio, lies in the former’s six available PCIe expansion slots. However, for customers who don’t require this specific feature, the Mac Studio offers an enticing alternative. With the option to configure it with the M2 Ultra chip, customers can save a substantial $3,000 compared to the Mac Pro.
