Google One, a subscription service that offers more cloud storage across Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos, is expanding its VPN service to all its plans for iPhone and Android users. The VPN is designed to help hide internet activity from third parties, and Google claims it won’t use it to “track, log, or sell your online activity“.
The move comes as privacy concerns continue to rise, and users seek ways to protect their online data from prying eyes. Google is well-known for collecting data for advertising purposes, so the expansion of its VPN service is a welcome addition for subscribers.
The Google One VPN has been available for some time, but until now, it was limited to specific plans. However, with this latest update, all subscribers can take advantage of the service. The VPN is easy to use and can be turned on or off from the Google One app.
In addition to the VPN expansion, Google has launched a new dark web monitoring tool that will be available exclusively to Google One subscribers in the US. The tool enables users to scan for their information on the dark web and choose which details they want Google to monitor, including names, addresses, emails, phone numbers, and Social Security Numbers.
If Google finds any personal information on the dark web, it will notify subscribers and provide suggestions for protective measures. For example, if a user’s Social Security Number is leaked, they can report it as stolen and lock down their credit profile.

The dark web monitoring tool is a valuable addition for users who are concerned about their personal information being compromised. However, it is worth noting that the tool will only be available to Google One subscribers in the US.
Google has stated that it will roll out the expanded VPN access across all plans for users in supported countries starting Wednesday and over the coming weeks. With these updates, Google One subscribers can benefit from enhanced privacy and protection of their personal information online.
