Renowned Apple researcher Aaron Pearce, known as @aaronp613 on Twitter, shared intriguing screenshots showcasing code references to a mysterious MagSafe Battery Pack and an enigmatic MagSafe Charger.
According to the code found within the first iOS 17 developer beta, a new MagSafe Battery Pack bearing the model number A2781 is in the works. Additionally, a fresh iteration of the MagSafe Charger, labeled with the model number A3088, has also surfaced. Although the snippets of information do not explicitly divulge the exact enhancements packed into these accessories, speculations abound regarding their potential capabilities.
One possible theory revolves around the notion that the forthcoming MagSafe chargers may embrace the ever-popular USB-C technology. This supposition gains credence when we consider that the current iterations of the MagSafe Battery Pack and MagSafe Charger employ Apple’s exclusive Lightning connector. Numerous reports have suggested that Apple is contemplating removing the Lightning connector from its iPhone lineup this year with the highly anticipated iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models. Therefore, it seems plausible that the rumored MagSafe chargers might align with this transition, marking a shift toward USB-C compatibility.
