Rumor has it that the tech giant will finally bid farewell to its long-standing Lightning charging port, which has been in use since the iPhone 5, and embrace the widely adopted USB-C standard. But that’s not all—the iPhone 15 might also bring faster wireless charging capabilities, transcending the limitations imposed on non-certified Qi chargers.
Currently, Apple supports wireless charging up to 15W with its MagSafe chargers on the latest iPhone models. However, third-party wireless chargers lacking Apple’s certification have always been subjected to speed limitations, capping their charging capabilities at a meager 5W to 7.5W. This disparity has left users yearning for a seamless and efficient wireless charging experience that matches the convenience of wired charging.
It was back in 2017 when Apple first introduced wireless charging to its lineup with the iPhone 8 and iPhone X. At that time, though, the technology fell short in terms of charging speeds compared to traditional wired solutions. It wasn’t until the advent of the iPhone 12 that Apple pushed the envelope, enabling wireless charging at the current 15W limit.
