Apple is reportedly working on new OLED iPad Pro models that may be launched next year. However, a new report suggests that these devices could be significantly more expensive than current models due to the OLED technology they incorporate.
According to a report by TheElec, Apple is facing price hikes due to new production processes for OLED iPad models. These processes could lead to panels being two to three times the price of existing OLED panels of the same size. It is expected that the additional expense will be passed down to the consumers when the new 2024 iPad Pro models are launched.
Currently, Apple sells the 12.9-inch iPad Pro with a mini-LED display and the 11-inch iPad Pro with a traditional LCD display. The mini-LED display technology is exclusive to the largest model in the lineup.
With the OLED versions, both the 12.9-inch and 11-inch iPad Pro models are expected to benefit from the improved display technology. OLED displays offer a better viewing experience over LED due to several advantages in display quality, including a larger color range, high contrast levels, better handling of darkness, lighting precision, and fast response times.
Reports suggest that Samsung Display is preparing to open an all-new production line for OLED iPad models. Samsung Display is one of the major suppliers of OLED panels to Apple, and its move to set up a dedicated production line for iPad panels indicates a significant push towards OLED technology in Apple’s iPad lineup.
