Samsung’s Unpacked 2023 event was held yesterday, and the tech giant made several exciting announcements, including the launch of its latest Galaxy S23 series smartphones. However, the biggest surprise of the event came in the form of a mixed reality device, which is set to challenge Apple’s upcoming Reality Pro.
Samsung joined forces with Qualcomm and Google to work on the software for this new XR experience. During the event, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon stated, “In XR, we’re working to create a new era of highly immersive digital experiences that blur the lines between our physical and digital worlds.”
Although no hardware was revealed during the event, it’s clear that Samsung, Qualcomm, and Google are collaborating on a mixed-reality headset. It’s widely speculated that Samsung will provide the main hardware for the device.
The company has made several attempts at virtual reality in the past, but its previous offerings, such as the Gear VR headset, were more of a side experience for Galaxy owners.
The timing of Samsung’s announcement might seem a bit premature, especially since rumors suggest that Apple’s Reality Pro headset may launch before WWDC this year. However, Samsung’s collaboration with Qualcomm and Google is still an exciting development in the world of XR.
