Apple has announced the release date and debut trailer for the second season of “Schmigadoon!”, the popular musical comedy series starring Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong. The first season, which premiered in 2021, was a resounding success and was renewed for a second season in June 2022. The show is set to premiere worldwide on April 5, with new episodes being released every Wednesday through May 3.
The show, which has been billed as a parody of iconic musicals, takes place in a magical town called Schmigadoon, where everyone lives in a studio musical from the 1940s. The second season sees the characters Josh and Melissa travel to Schmicago, a reimagined world of musicals from the 1960s and 1970s. The show promises to be just as entertaining as the first season, with the addition of new cast members like Tituss Burgess and Patrick Page.
In addition to Keegan-Michael Key and Cecily Strong, the show features a star-studded cast, including Ariana DeBose, Martin Short, Dove Cameron, Jaime Camil, Kristin Chenoweth, Alan Cumming, Ann Harada, Jane Krakowski, and Aaron Tveit. The show is co-created by Cinco Paul and Ken Daurio, with Universal Television producing the series.
Andrew Singer executive produces the show on behalf of Broadway Video, with Micah Frank serving as co-executive producer. Paul serves as the showrunner and wrote all of the original songs for the series, while Lorne Michaels is another executive producer. Since its debut, “Schmigadoon!” has earned Emmy and AFI Award wins, as well as a Critics Choice Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for star Kristin Chenoweth.
