Spotify has made a small but significant change to its user interface by getting rid of the heart button in favor of a dual-function plus icon. The change has been designed to simplify the process of saving songs, albums, and podcasts and adding content to playlists. The change is set to roll out on both iOS and Android versions of the app, and it’s aimed at making it easier for users to engage with the music and podcasts they love.
In a recent blog post, Spotify announced the update and explained how the new plus button would work. By consolidating the heart icon and the “Add to playlist” icon into a single symbol, Spotify aims to make it easier for users to save and choose the destination of any song, playlist, or podcast. All it takes is a simple tap, and users can save content to their Liked Songs or Your Episodes.
The new feature will also allow users to easily add an entire album to their library with just one click of the plus button. Once the content has been successfully added, users will see a green check to confirm the addition. According to Spotify, during testing, the new feature helped users save time and made them more likely to revisit the saved content in the future.
The new integrated plus button design is starting to roll out to all users globally on mobile, beginning with iOS and Android devices, and will become available to all Spotify users in the coming weeks.
In a promotional video, Spotify showcased the different ways the new plus button will appear across the iOS and Android Spotify apps. The redesign is just one step in Spotify’s ongoing work to create a more intuitive user experience. By simplifying the process of saving and accessing content, Spotify hopes to make it easier for users to engage with the music and podcasts they love.
