Spotify is rolling out a major redesign for its iOS and Android apps, which includes video and audio previews for music, podcasts, and audiobooks in the Home feed, and new video feeds for discovery in Search. This announcement was made at the company’s “Stream On” event, where they showed off the TikTok-like design change.
According to Spotify, the new interface was built for deeper discovery and more meaningful connections between artists and fans, calling it their “biggest evolution yet”. The company believes that the next generation of listeners craves better ways to sample audio before fully diving in, which is why they are moving towards a more interactive experience.
The new mobile Home feed and Search experience will allow users to explore visual and audio previews of playlists, albums, podcast episodes, and audiobooks personalized to their tastes. Users can tap to save or share, go deeper into artist or podcast pages, play from the start, or continue listening from where the preview ended.
In the new Search experience, users can scroll up or down to explore short Canvas clips from tracks from some of their favorite genres. They can easily save the song to a playlist, follow the artist, or share it with friends, all from one place. Users can even preview tracks on some of their favorite playlists like Discover Weekly, Release Radar, New Music Friday, and RapCaviar.

After previewing content with the new design, users can save, download, or share with just one tap. They can also play from the start, or dive even deeper by tapping a recommendation to explore even more related audio.
Spotify has not yet announced a hard launch date for the UI overhaul but says it’s “beginning to roll out to Premium and Free users globally across iOS and Android” over the coming weeks and months. With this redesign, Spotify aims to make it easier for users to discover new music, podcasts, and audiobooks, and to create deeper connections between artists and fans.
