Messaging app Telegram has launched a new feature called “Power Saving Mode” for its macOS app, aimed at MacBook users. The mode, available in version 9.4.1 of the app, aims to save battery life by disabling resource-intensive processes.
When activated, the mode turns off animations, auto-playing videos and GIFs, and other interface effects that consume more power. This reduces the app’s use of hardware resources and lessens the load on the laptop’s battery.
While Power Saving Mode is targeted at MacBooks, desktop users can also benefit from faster speeds by enabling the feature, particularly on older machines with less powerful hardware. Users can also customize the feature to turn off specific effects and animations, and automatically enable it when the laptop’s battery reaches a specific level of charge.
Telegram’s new feature is part of the app’s update, which also includes bug fixes and performance improvements. The app is available for free on the App Store for Macs running macOS 10.12 or later. Telegram for macOS is different from Telegram Desktop, a universal app that runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux.
