The Apple AirPort Extreme 3rd Generation is a wireless router designed, manufactured, and sold by Apple in 2009 as part of the AirPort Extreme series. The base station was introduced on March 3, 2009, and its price started at $179.
The new AirPort Extreme features a Gigabit Ethernet (10/100/1000BASE-T), maximum speed has been increased up to 540 Mbps, compatibility with 802.11a/b/g and Draft-N protocols, guest networking, three LAN ports, the possibility to connect up to 50 devices, and Dual-band operation on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz simultaneously.
The new AirPort Disk feature allows users to plug a USB hard drive into the AirPort Extreme for use as a network-attached storage (NAS) device for Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows clients. Users may also connect a USB hub and printer.
This AirPort Extreme has been discontinued on October 20, 2009. Today AirPort Extreme 3rd Generation is 15 years old!
