The Mac OS X Server 10.7 Lion is an operating system designed, developed, and sold by Apple from 2011 to 2012 alongside Apple’s personal computers. The system was released on July 20, 2011, and was available for $49.99 or was preinstalled on currently sold computers.
This Mac OS X Server includes new versions of iCal Server, Wiki Server, and Mail Server. More significantly, Lion Server can be used for iOS mobile device management and comes with unlimited client licenses as did Mac OS X Server Snow Leopard.
Starting with Server 10.7 Lion PostgreSQL replaces MySQL as the database provided with Mac OS X Server, coinciding with Oracle Corporation’s acquisition of Sun Microsystems and Oracle’s subsequent attempts to tighten MySQL’s licensing restrictions and to exert influence on MySQL’s previously open and independent development model.
Mac OS X Lion introduced as well FaceTime, AirDrop, Emoji support, Mail 5, Adress Book, Address space layout randomization, Apple Push Notification Service, Auto Save, Auto-Correction, Exposé in Dock, FileVault, Finder improvements, Font Book 3, Full-screen apps, iCal and iChat updates, Launchpad, Multi-touch gestures from iOS, and many more.
