Apple has launched a new classical music app called Apple Music Classical. The app is finally available on the App Store for pre-order and has now begun its global rollout. The launch of Apple Music Classical is a result of Apple’s acquisition of the renowned classical music streaming service, Primephonic in 2021.
Apple Music Classical offers over five million tracks, thousands of exclusive albums, and much more. The app boasts the world’s largest classical music catalog with works ranging from new releases to celebrated masterpieces. It also offers the ability to search by composer, work, conductor, or catalog number to find specific recordings instantly.
Apple Music Classical also has the highest audio quality with up to 192 kHz/24-bit Hi-Res Lossless and thousands of recordings in immersive spatial audio. The app also provides complete and accurate metadata to ensure users know exactly what work and which artist is playing, and thousands of editorial notes, including composer biographies, and descriptions of key works.
Apple has also made it clear that there is no additional cost for those who already subscribe to Apple Music. In its former Primephonic incarnation, the service cost $14.99.
Oliver Schusser, Apple’s Vice President of Apple Music and Beats, said, “We love and have a deep respect for classical music, and Primephonic has become a fan favorite for classical enthusiasts. Together, we’re bringing great new classical features to Apple Music, and in the near future, we’ll deliver a dedicated classical experience that will truly be the best in the world”.

The main advantage of the new app will be much better organization and searching, allowing searches for recordings of specific performances, a key weakness of Apple Music.
The Apple Music Classical app can be downloaded now if it’s already Tuesday in your time zone; otherwise, you can pre-order and get a notification of when it is available to you. The launch of Apple Music Classical has been long-awaited and is set to revolutionize the classical music experience on streaming platforms.
