Apple is expected to change the charging port on its upcoming iPhone 15 models from Lightning to USB-C, and this transition is expected to impact several of the company’s accessories as well. According to a tweet from noted leaker ShrimpApplePro, the EarPods with a USB-C connector are already in mass production.
This means that the new EarPods would connect directly to the USB-C port on iPhone 15 models without the need for an adapter. The existing EarPods are currently available with either a Lightning connector or a 3.5mm headphone jack, with both versions priced at $19.
The EarPods have been a popular choice for iPhone users since they were first introduced, and although they have become less popular since the introduction of the wireless AirPods in 2016, they still provide a simple plug-and-play wired listening experience, with a built-in remote and no charging or pairing required.
The move to USB-C is expected to make it easier for users to connect their iPhone 15 models to a wider range of devices, as USB-C is now the industry standard for charging and data transfer. Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 15 lineup in September, and the new EarPods are likely to launch around the same time.
According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the switch to USB-C is not limited to the EarPods, and other accessories like AirPods charging cases, the MagSafe Battery Pack, and the Magic Keyboard, Trackpad, and Mouse trio will also make the switch in the future.

The move to USB-C is a significant one for Apple, as it will bring the company in line with other smartphone makers who have already made the switch to the industry standard charging port. The move is also likely to be welcomed by users who have been frustrated by the limited compatibility of Apple’s Lightning connector.
